Philosophy of Treatment

My approach to treatment is solution-focused and cognitive behavioral.  I assume that patients have the strengths, inner resources, or solutions to deal with the problems that they are facing.  Once these solutions have been identified, patients actively involve themselves in their own therapeutic process.

The cognitive-behavioral methods focus on changing the belief system that is triggered by automatic thoughts.  By learning how to use alternative or balanced thinking patients decrease or eliminate the harmful feelings and behaviors that no longer work for them.

Patient Philosophy

I subscribe to the philosophy that patients should be treated with consideration and respect.  Patients can expect quality service provided by a concerned and competent therapist.

I believe the patient deserves to have a clear statement of the purposes, goals, techniques, rules of procedures, and limitations as well as all other information related to or likely to affect the on-going counseling relationship.  The patient will be given full, knowledgeable and responsible participation in the on-going treatment plan.

The patient also has the right to refuse any recommended services and be advised of the consequences of this action.

Patients can expect confidentiality and that no information will be released without a written consent except when professional ethics and laws dictate otherwise.  They may obtain information about the case record, and the patients are entitled to have this information explained clearly and directly.

Statements describing any charges are mailed monthly, and my office manager will be available by phone to answer any questions the patients might have.
