Education and Experience
I received a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Social Service from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana
and a Masters of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips
Graduate Institute in Encino, California.
My professional experience
as an independent contractor includes maintaining a private practice in Marriage and
Family Therapy since 1988. For many years I have been a local resource for
client companies as an Employee Assistant Program Counselor assessing employee
problems and referring to appropriate resources. As co-founder and
co-director of A Center for Therapy, my responsibilities included instructing and
supervising marriage and family therapy interns.
I have been an adjunct faculty member of Phillips Graduate Institute where, as a case conference instructor, I demonstrated assessment and treatment techniques behind a one-way mirror. I have also lectured in the Master of Arts School of Marriage and Family Therapy on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, marketing and practical business courses.
As an adjunct faculty member of Antioch University in Santa Barbara I taught Theories and Application of Family Therapy in the Master of Arts School of Psychology program.
I have presented workshops on "Silence the Inner Critic: Unleash Your Potential," "Crash Course in Managed Care," "Supervision," "Setting Up Your Private Practice," "Planning for Professional Success As a Marriage and Family Therapist," "Networking and Referrals," and "HIPPA...Ready, Set, Go.".
Training and Specialties
During my career I have had specific training in alcohol and chemical dependency, anxiety disorders, hypnotherapy, family therapy, mood disorders, parent effectiveness training, psychopharmacology, and solution-focused therapy.
As a result my specialties include brief psychotherapy, couples therapy and hypnotherapy. I am experienced in the treatment of anxiety, depression and post-trauma. As a participating provider of many managed health and insurance plans I utilize collaborative care with other physicians to assure total treatment.
